Her grandmother's necklace

Her grandmother's necklace
three shades of blue
rising and falling as she sighs

worn from the years
still a sparkle remains
the mystery of a secret life

Through the turn and the toil
time cranks on, barges through
whispers and weeping forgotten
a girl, a lady, a woman, a maid
but still the blue pearls remain

meals of oatmeal porridge
pudding and soup
meal by meal till the end she prays

her daughter a memory
that's flying from her
her granddaughter a thousand miles away

Through the turn and the toil
time cranks on, barges through
whispers and weeping forgotten
a girl, a lady, a woman, a maid
generations of women connected

she doesn't know that its missing
she doesn't know she lives on
day by day she reaches closer to rest

that blue pearl necklace
the last to connect
three women eventually forgot

Through the turn and the toil
time cranks on, barges through
whispers and weeping forgotten
till the sound of blue pearls on the floor
